Basketball clinic is held from November through February on Monday evenings at PS 186 in Glen Oaks. This is an instructional clinic for boys and girls in kindergarten to 2nd Grade. Children are taught basic basketball skills to prepare them for competitive play, which begins in 3rd grade. The session for kids in kindergarten/1st grade runs from 6:00-7:00 PM. The session for kids in 2nd grade runs from 7:15-8:15 PM.
Team competition is offered through the CYO program for all boys and girls in grades 3 through 8. Boys and girls play on separate teams although girls are eligible to play on boy’s teams if they prefer. All children are eligible to play, assuming they meet the age requirements and there is room on a team. There are no try-outs. The girl’s season runs from mid-October through January, and the boy’s season runs from November through February.
Practices are 1.5 hours per week, generally on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings. Times vary and are determined by age group and gym availability. They are held either at Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston or PS 186 on Little Neck Parkway in Glen Oaks.
Teams compete against CYO teams from other parishes. There is generally one game per week, although occasionally there could be two. All games are held on the weekends. Locations vary depending on the team that is being played. Home games are played at MS 67 on Marathon Parkway in Little Neck.
